Bjelke Peterson Dam (again) Feb 2023

We are heading to Bjelke Peterson Dam for a few days. We hope to meet Gunther and Graham, Gail & Quilpie there.

Fri 3/2/23

Stopped at Goomeri bakery for an early lunch. Neither of us enjoyed our pies and last time we stopped here I didn't enjoy mine either.

We are booked on to a powered site (#20) for 3 nights at Yallakool caravan park, $94.50.

Travelled 180kms.

Afternoon and evening swims as it's very hot. Apparently it got to 33°.

4/2/23

Aircon was on all night. A few spots of rain but we went for a ride over the dam wall, 4.77kms.

We both went for a paddle and then a swim. Not as hot today.

5/2/23

Fed the birds then went for another ride over the dam wall this morning, 6.9kms. Paddle and a swim again this afternoon.

Graham cooked a wonderful Chinese meal for dinner,  wonton soup, honey chicken with veg and rice.

6/2/23

We have decided to stay another night. Went for another ride over the dam wall this morning and along part of the quarry rd, 9.2kms.

Headed into Murgon.  Had coffee and a wander along the short track around the creek, a whole 1.2kms.

Afternoon spent working on a photobook, paddling and swimming.

We finally had a clear sky long enough to spot a couple of satellites, only 1 was verified.

7/2/23

Today we're heading home via Kinbombi Falls. Went for a 2km walk and a 5km ride before packing up and departing about 9.45.

Stopped for coffee at Goomeri Cafe.

Travelled 33kms.

Trail 1 included 226 steps to get down towards the water. It's very green and slimy. We saw a few turtles, which can be seen in the photo below.

View from the lookout/track 2.
Track 3, included 139 steps each way. It was very steep and once we got off the steps it was very slippery climbing down the embankment. I chose not to go all the way down to the water but Mark did. My knees felt a little like jelly after we'd climbed back up.

Mark down the bottom.
Supposed to be a swimming area 🤢
Above 2 pics Mark took from down the bottom of trail 3.

Finished the afternoon sitting under a tree, in the gentle breeze, reading a book and having a nice cool drink. Life is grand.

8/2/23

After a very peaceful night we are heading home. Departed at 7.30am.

Travelled 155kms.

This trip we travelled a whole 368kms.

So far our JJ has travelled 22,725kms

Since I retired (Feb '18) we have travelled 70,525kms while towing.

Our next trip will be to New Zealand in a couple of weeks so no JJ.
